A little over a year ago, one of my dreams came true.
I got to record an EP and OMG…I was excited! For those of you who don’t know me, I’m a singer/songwriter and I’ve been singing since I can remember. It’s been a passion of mine for years and I just about jumped at the chance to record an album in an actual studio.
The process began really organically. My dad had reconnected with an old friend from middle school who just so happened to be a big-time producer. We decided to embark on this project together and I can say that it was quite the growing experience for me both as an artist and as an individual. So what was it like? Let me tell you!
In the Beginning…
We discussed concepts. What did I want this album to be? What were my motivations, my passions, what did I want to say as an artist? This all started by having my producer pick my brain for what made me—me.
The Writing Process
I had written previous songs, but was always too afraid to share them with anyone. Putting something out there that is a piece of you can be scary! After some persuasion, my producer was able to convince me to share it, and that’s where you get my first recorded song ever: My Everyday.
Now… The Practice
Hours were spent learning original songs, practicing by myself, working with my producer—All to get the perfect sound. It’s not as easy as it looks. When it comes to an in-studio performance, it’s just you and the microphone. You’ve gotta step up to the plate and perform.
The fun part!
Now each of these steps were enjoyable in their own right, but I can honestly say that there’s no feeling like being in a studio–It’s truly one of my favorite places to be.
After all the vocals were recorded it was time to sit back and let my producer work his magic on these songs! It was so fun anxiously awaiting an email with the newest edited version of my tracks. It was like opening a present on Christmas morning!
Album cover
Did someone say photo shoot?! I’m in! I’m not going to lie… I’m a sucker for a good photo shoot. My sisters who each have their own bit of sassy style helped me plan the perfect outfits. With the amazing skills of Eugene Michel Photography, I felt so comfortable and excited that I was taking pictures for my album cover!
Lots of design meetings and work came into completing the album covers, social media, website design, but it all was a process that I’ll remember for the rest of my life and I hope that there are many more of these to come.
Hope you enjoyed a little inside peek into one of the best memories of my life. There aren’t many opportunities to learn about an inside scoop into the process of the music industry so I thought I’d share mine with you.
