While I LOVE living in DC, sometimes, you just need a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life!

Trying to find easy-to-get-to locations near DC can be hard. (Trust me, that’s why I’ve created this guide for you!) BUT don’t stress. I have the perfect line-up for those weekends where you just need a day-cation.
Annapolis, MD
One of my favorite places to visit in the Spring and Summer. Anytime I have guests, I always take them here!
Distance: Approx. 45 Mins by Car | Of course, the easiest option is to drive, however, I have taken Uber before! While it can be pricey, I was able to split the cost among several people which made it much more reasonable for a fun day away.

Where to Eat?
Iron Rooster: Chicken & Waffles, Breakfast Burritos, oh and did I mention they have homemade pop tarts? These are a must have!
Middleton Tavern: This place first opened in 1750. When you step in, you feel like you’re sitting in a piece of history! It’s because you are. I highly recommend checking this place out, even if just popping in for a drink.
Annapolis Ice Cream Co.: If you have a major sweet tooth like me, pop by here for an afternoon treat.
Castlebay Irish Pub: Sit inside or opt outside in the sun and people watch. Grab a Guinness with a friend and enjoy some delicious pub fare.

What to Do?
Shopping: If you’re like me, then shopping never gets old. Annapolis offers a great mix of small boutiques, souvenir shops, and other great options like Hobo and The Black Dog.
Visit the Waterfront: Like I mentioned above, grab some ice cream and wander the waterfront. Peruse the big boats, smell the salty air, and sit by the water enjoying the sun!
Tour The U.S. Naval Academy: Such an amazing tour and beautiful campus. I sure enjoyed visiting the campus with a friend.
Philadelphia, PA
My friends and I took a bus up to Philly for just the day! It was totally feasible to travel here in the morning, and head back later that night.

Distance: About 3 hours by bus, 2.5 hours by car.
Where to Eat?
Reading Terminal Market: Only putting one suggestion here. Why? Because if you can’t find something to suit your appetite here, then I’m not sure what to tell you! I do however, recommend getting a Philly Cheesesteak. I mean, you are in Philly after all!

What to Do?
Reading Terminal Market: Putting this on here this list too, because it’s more than just food. It’s an experience! We had so much fun wandering around here, getting treats, stopping at different spots for a drink, and finally getting our cheesesteaks.
The Liberty Bell: You most likely will have to wait in line to see this gem, but it is definitely worth it to see such a rich piece of history.
Independence Hall: Make sure you get your tickets in advance!
The Franklin Institute: Great, interactive exhibits!

Mount Vernon
Visiting here is literally like stepping back into time!
Distance: Approximately 35 minute drive from DC
What to Do?
Mount Vernon has a lot to see and do. Check out the Gardens, Farm, Memorial and Tombs, Museum, and of course Washington’s Mansion.
Visit the Historic area to get a taste for what life was like a few hundred years ago. This includes a blacksmith shop, spinning house, greenhouse, washhouse, and more. There are even options to pick up hot chocolate and sweet treats outside from people in authentic time-period dress.

Leesburg, VA
Visit this historic old town and visit a nearby winery!
Distance: Approx. 45 – 50 minute drive.
A few weekends ago, my parents were visiting and we were looking for something new to enjoy the sunny day. We settled on Leesburg and had a great day shopping, eating, drinking, and enjoying the beautiful views at Stone Tower Winery.

What to Do?
Historic Downtown Leesburg: King, Market, and Loudon St. all offer delicious restaurants and boutiques for perusing. We settled upon Fireworks Pizza which was delicious!
Stone Tower Winery: This winery was not only beautiful, but had the most delicious wine. I’m a sparkling wine gal myself, but the Chardonnay is also quite yummy! We grabbed a few glasses of wine, sat outside for a few hours, and enjoy the beautiful view.
Old Town Alexandria, VA
We love this one because it’s so close. You’re not going far, but you still feel like you’re some place new!

Distance: Approx. 20 mins by car.
Where to Eat?
Landini Brothers: If you want a great atmosphere, huge, delicious portions, and great service, this place has you covered. I’ve had a lot of Italian food (It’s my favorite!) and I think this place might take 1st place.
Chart House: Sit right by the water and enjoy delicious cocktail and seafood.
Virtue Feed & Grain: You might miss it upon first glance, but you won’t want to skip this place. A great spot to meet up with friends for a diverse menu and great drink options.
O’Connell’s Irish Restaurant & Bar: Yes, another Irish pub. This place has some of the best fish n’ chips. Just see the pic below!

What to Do?
Shopping: Check out a few of my favorite places: 3 Sisters & Lou Lou.
Farmers Market: Saturday mornings!
Carlyle House: Learn about the history of Old Town and take a tour of this historic house.
Spite House: The narrowest house in America! It’s a must see.
Spend the Night: The Alexandrian is a great spot to stay for the night. With modern, hip and funky rooms, you can enjoy the delicious food and drink that Old Town has to offer without having to drive home!

Hope you have some fun visiting these fun spots! Tag me in your photos if you take any of these day trips so I can see all the fun you’re having! #GlammingtheGlobe
